Waiting for death

Death is seldom welcome. But we don't know when it will come to us and will feel its ice-cold embrace. And after death ? We don't know for sure if there is anything after death.

We all are afraid of death, or the pain that accompanies death. The threads of blood bound us to the laughter and tears of life. The sky, the village and the small things are so dear to us that parting with them for good is an unbearable thought.

But waiting for death and feeling its footsteps at distance is the most sorrowful experience. Sometimes death comes to us, without any prior notice and without any demonstration. Sometimes we are just too busy to give any thought to our dearest friend, that is death.

But sometimes, we wait for death. We lay in a bed, motionless, and we feel-- Death is coming, slowly. It takes one step at a time, but it never stops. We look around and see the world brimming with life slowly going away from us. We feel the temple of our body slowly crumbling down like dry leaves. This wait is melancholic like a wet, dark, lonely evening and the most sorrowful experience before death.

Man are not equal

Men are born free, but everywhere they are in chains.- Rousseau said.
All Men are created equal. It is said.

I doubt both of them. All men are not in chains. Some people are chained and they are chained by some other people. The slaves are in chains and the masters chained them.
Men are never created equal. Some are born to affluence and some are to poverty. Some will have plenty to spend lavishly and some will not have enough to eat. Men are unequal always. Sometimes this inequality is glaring and sometimes it is not.

Take the case of recent attack on Srilankan cricket team in Pakistan. We all heaved a sigh of relief as all the cricketers were saved. But eight people, most of them policemen, died facing the bullets of terrorists. And almost everybody, from media to the cricketers were indifferent about them. Probably we don't care when "Flies die". But these flies might have their families too and it is very likely that they were the bread earners for their families.

This is just one example. Same was the case when Rajiv Gandhi died in a suicide attack. At least fourteen other people died in the attack. But we weep only for Rajiv Gandhi, we remember only Rajiv Gandhi.
The suicide attack on Benazir Bhutto killed not only her, but 23 other people also.
But the world media was totally focused on Benazir Bhutto, the world had no time to shed tear for the other "flies" killed in the attack.

We the people and the media are only concerned about the well being of stars and leaders of the world. Deaths of "flies" is a too insignificant a thing for us to take note of.
